George R.R. Martin Promises ‘A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms’ Will Have “Much Different Tone” Than ‘Game Of Thrones’

Ready for Game of Thrones lite?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a new series coming to HBO next year, and author George R.R. Martin, the EP of the series and creator of the novels that spawned this world, promises a shift in tone.

The new spinoff “will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone,” Martin posted Wednesday on his blog. “But it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe.”

The series follows the adventure of Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell).

The official logline for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is “set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory” and “great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Martin wrote that Season 1 ould deal with the events of his first Dunk-and-Egg novella, The Hedge Knight.

“The show will make its debut next year,” he wrote, “and if it does well, [Novella #2] The Sworn Sword and [Novella #3] The Mystery Knight, will follow. By which time, I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish The Winds of Winter).”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be written and executive-produced by Martin and Ira Parker. Ryan Condal, who currently serves as House of the Dragon‘s showrunner, Owen Harris, Sarah Bradshaw and Vince Gerardis also will be EPs. It is slated to premiere in June 2025.
